One of the best features of a metal roof is the ability of snow to slide off, avoiding heavy snow loads on your roof and eliminating the Snow1time-consuming and inconvenient chore of having to shovel snow off the roof.  What you don’t want, however, is large amounts of snow falling from your roof at once, damaging whatever may be below in the path of the falling snow. The benefits of a Standing Seam metal roof are irrefutable so how can we prevent the possible damages from mini-avalanches?

Snow guards.  Yes, snow guards are available for your metal roof.  Snow Guards prevent the dangerous movement of frozen precipitation on a sloped roof by suspending it in a holding field so it can melt completely or drop off in small amounts. These guards can be invaluable here in New Hampshire and Maine.

snowguardsThere are many types of snow guards and fences, as well as different installation methods.  Your roofing professional will be able to ascertain which type of guard and installation is best for your metal roof. Snow guards are a cost-efficient, simple way to ensure safety and peace of mind after a storm.

Interestingly enough, some enterprising people have found unintended ways to use snow guards. According to an article written by a New Jersey roofing company “…one Florida restaurant is using its snow guard system as a beer bottle collector. Patrons gathering on the restaurant’s rooftop patio used to inadvertently knock their empty beer bottles from the patio wall onto the sloped standing seam metal roof below, sending the bottles crashing down onto the sidewalk.  A local architect suggested the restaurant install the snow rail which now traps bottles at the lower edge of the roof, preventing damage or injury.”  Also, “…a school in sunny Los Angeles installed snow guards on its metal roof to stop local skateboarders from using the roof as a giant skateboard ledge.”!

You may not need to worry about empty bottles falling from your roof or rogue skateboarders on the top of your house,  but snow guards will alleviate your worries about heavy snow drop damage!

I have 20+ years experience in the roofing industry. Throughout that time I have worked with numerous amounts of clients on the design, decision making, and pricing involved in their projects. I also help oversee all day to day operations. Throughout our time in business we have gone through many changes but one thing that will never change is our devotion to customer satisfaction. One of our top sources for referrals is word of mouth from our previous customers. That alone says a lot about the quality of the service our customers receive.
